Stewardship Challenge
Personal Development- Part 4

“Hear, My son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in the right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instructions, do not let go; keep her, for she is your life.” Proverbs 4:10-13I would like to finish up this month with a few suggestions and challenges for personal growth. I know it is almost April but you can still begin with these suggestions:

  • Get a personal plan to read through the Bible this year.
  • Get involved in an additional exercise program for your body, soul and spirit.
  • Challenge yourself to go one day without complaining–then up it to one week without complaining.
  • Make a concerted effort to get involved with someone outside your family and your circle of friends (you might consider volunteering with Crossroads to adopt a grandmother or grandfather).

Let’s complete this month celebrating Easter and remember the real reason for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We serve a GOOD God and a Risen Savior!!

Stewardship Challenge 2016
Personal Development –Part 3

Last week I spoke about following your dreams. Today, I would like to share an article that I wrote about your dreams.

Do you have Dreams in the Making?

“Here comes the Dreamer! They said to each other” Genesis 37:19 NIV

Can people say this about you? Do you have dreams in the making? In the scripture, Joseph was a dreamer; his dreams were so real he just had to share them with others. Not everyone was as excited about Joseph’s dreams as he was. But, the doubt of others did not keep him from dreaming or believing what was in his heart. When others disagreed with him or when opposition came, he continued to dream.

Life did not always take the route that he had planned and sometimes life happens and things don’t always go our way, but we cannot stop our dreaming. Even when he was falsely accused and thrown into prison, he kept on dreaming and allowed God to work behind the scenes to fulfill the dreams of his heart.

So, today, I encourage you, no matter what has happened in your life or what life has thrown at you, to keep dreaming. The dreams are God-given and you need to hold them dear to your heart until they have been fulfilled. Do your part, which is to keep believing, continue to walk in forgiveness, keep following your heart and stay obedient to His Word. As you stay in faith, just like Joseph, you will see the fulfillment of your dreams.

“Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do super abundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams”.

Stewardship Challenge 2016
Personal Development-Part 2

Last week, we looked at heart issues in our lives and this week I would like to look at additional thoughts on ways we can increase the awareness of our self-development training. Let’s look at five things we can work on:

  1. 1. To renew your mind. One of the best ways to do this is to read your Bible daily. Make a plan to read through the Bible this year. Romans 12:2
  2. 2. Learn to walk in the abundant life that Christ purchased for you. This means you learn to walk in faith which is the biggest way to please God. Hebrews 11:1
  3. 3. Learn to give value to the lives of others around you and with whom you come in contact with every day. Mark 12:31
  4. 4. Learn to live a disciplined life. A disciplined life becomes a successful life. Learn to believe in yourself and let your “yes” be “yes” and your “no” be “no”. Learn to hear the voice of your Father and be quick to obey.
  5. 5. Learn to war against negative influences in the world. The enemy has given himself the task of destroying this world using any negative influence he can throw into this world. We must not align ourselves with him in any way.

A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. That means your minds and your heart must be self-disciplined to be on the same page. You cannot speak one thing with your mouth when you speak and pray and believe with your hearts and mind something else.

Some of the advantages in becoming self-disciplined are as follows:

  • Become laser focused on your dreams.
  • Learn to give no room for doubt and fear in your mind.

Once you learn to become laser focused on your dreams (which the Lord has placed in your heart), you will find it easier to pray and study the Bible without your mind running off on tangents.
  • A daily program of personal development will help you to train yourself to be a disciplined warrior.
  • A disciplined warrior always looks to his Captain.   As you apply self-development training to your life it does not mean that you are not Christ-centered, in fact it means you are more Christ-centered.
  • Christ is looking for disciplined warriors. Are you ready?

Meet Crossroads’ Volunteer Coordinator

My name is Kristi Hagan and I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Crossroads Ministries as well as Kay’s Office Manager. I have been with Crossroads for a year and a half and love it! I’m a Colorado native and former Air Force brat. I have been with my husband for 11 years and have two Shih Tzu’s. I love to cook, read, try new restaurants, go to the dog park and hang out with my husband.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me any time.  My email is: kristi@crossroadsusa.org or you can call (719) 635-5767.   Please keep those reports coming! They’re so important and give me and Kay valuable insight.

Volunteer Recognition and Appreciation
Crossroads is so grateful and appreciative of all volunteers. You go above and beyond and it’s such a blessing to the residents. We always read reports and love to see how you’ve blessed the residents and what sorts of things you do for them. While reading the most recent reports we noticed that Tom and Paula Kelly blessed the residents in February by having tea and cookies and giving them a mug for Valentine’s Day!   Paula also gifted the residents with a handmade picture. Thank you, Tom and Paula, for giving from the heart.

This section is dedicated to recognizing our volunteer’s efforts and ways they bless the residents. Stay tuned because we may feature you next!

Memorials
We would like to thank our chaplains for the memorial services that have been performed in the past couple of months. We’d also like to recognize Patrick Corrigan conducting a memorial service at Parkmoor and Life Care Center in Pueblo. Patrick has also been involved with teaching our current chaplaincy students the details and care involved with memorial services. We’re so thankful to Patrick for all that he does!

Stewardship Challenge 2016
Personal Development –Part 1

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the term “Personal Development? Some think we are always called to be Christ-centered-not self-centered. And, that is true, while we are supposed to be Christ-Centered, we can also be taught to develop ourselves.

Christ-centered motivational self-development teaching is all about creating new wineskins that are able to carry new wine. Mark 2:22

Motivational and “self-development” teaching in its purest form is all about renewing your mind and training yourself to become the warrior that you were born to be.

Every time I travel on a plane, I hear the same instruction about the oxygen mask, “Fix your own mask first and then attend to others”. Good advice as we need to get our own life secured and on the right track to reach our highest potential. We will then be better equipped to support the lives of others.

The key issue is heart motives! Whatever we do in life should be motivated by the right heart motives. Let’s look at three main motives:

Self-centered- your only interest would be to create value for yourself.
Others-centered- your genuine focus us to bring value to the lives of others.
God-centered- your motive for what you do is to please God, and often this is combined with being others-centered.

So the bottom line is that it has to do with your heart motive. Several years ago, I designed my stationary like this.
J-Jesus
O-Others
Y-Yourself

Having this in place in our lives always brings us JOY!!

It’s about finding the seed of your destiny that God put in your heart and then watering this seed.
1. It is about taking responsibility for the free will that God has given you and using that free will to be your best for the benefit of others around you.
2. It is all about learning to really make a difference in the lives of others. This includes learning to really put God and others first in your mind and heart.
3. It is about creating a positive mindset that will be able to contain the blessings of God. This is how you learn to walk in abundance and success.
4. It is about learning to focus on positive faith building thoughts that will attract blessings. A positive mindset has room for blessings while a negative mindset is not able to receive good things.

This means that as long as your mindset is negative, you will be missing out on a lot of what God really wants to give you.

We will continue to look at Personal Development for the next three weeks.
