Ultimately Safety

Fear…  It gripped many hearts yesterday as news of the bombing at the Boston Marathon spread across our nation. Yet for the true believer of Jesus Christ, there should be a peace that passes understanding welling up within us. In John 6:33 Jesus encourages us, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world.” (AMP)

It’s time to remember that we, as the light, are at war with the darkness in this world. No laws, regulations or police force will ever be able to keep us all safe. They are all useful and serve a purpose, but they cannot overcome the evil within the human heart. When Adam and Eve fell, sin and evil entered the world. They began doing things they had never done before like disobeying and lying. Cain didn’t grow up influenced by violent movies and playing murder-filled video games, yet he murdered his brother. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9 KJV)  We are in a spiritual battle and must accept that true safety is found only in believing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our hearts and minds must be renewed.

God is faithful and has promised to bring an end to every tear. Living for God is the only sure promise we have of peace and ultimately safety. We can experience a piece of that while still on earth, but will know it in full in God’s perfect time. “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4 KJV)
